ABC’s Once Upon a Time first look at Rapunzel.

"We went a little darker and freakier," says executive producer Edward Kitsis. "A little more horror story in the vein of [the 2004 movie] The Grudge.”

The long-locked damsel played by Alexandra Metz will be visited in her tower by Prince Charming as well as a mysterious hooded menace.

Unfortunately, it appears that Rapunzel will not be a recurring character on the show. As appears to be par for the course with characters of color on the show, from what I have read.

Rapunzel is heading to Storybrooke.

The Originals actress Alexandra Metz has been cast as the fairy-tale character in the third season on ABC’s Once Upon a Time, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.

Rapunzel will be introduced into the Once Upon a Time universe in the 14th episode, as TVLine first reported. Metz currently is booked for one episode. (SOURCE)

Naturally, the OUAT fandom is already losing their shit over this casting. It's probably just gonna be Lancelot all over again tho.

OH GOSH. Before my Rapunzel piece starts circulating much further I would first like to thank racebentdisney for the reblog, but I would also just like to say that the piece isn’t meant to be disney related (anyone reblogging from them should also note that they have mentioned that in their own comments haha)! It’s fine if you’d like to think so but I would just like to put my original intent out there for the public to know.

I also wanted to point out that the illustration is originally meant as a possible nod towards the Ramayana (at least the part where Sita is captured) since the story of Rapunzel has always been a bit reminiscent of that to me. Rama in that story is usually depicted as blue (I was also considering Krishna or Vishnu reincarnations on their way to divinity). The piece is in no way supposed to be related to the Disney adaptation which has less similarities to the original Grimm fairy tale than any other Disney re-telling before it, which is fine, I loved the movie in itself, don’t get me wrong, that’s not necessarily what I was going for!

AND also a little snippet for anyone that might have doubts in my skintone morals; “”One of the theories is that Vishnu, because of his association with water, is depicted blue; therefore all his incarnations including Krishna, are shown as such. In Hinduism, persons who have depth of character and the capacity to fight evil are depicted as blue skinned. …

“The theory of the blue coloring of Krishna goes to the fact that the Creator has given the maximum of blue to nature i.e. the sky, the oceans, the rivers and lakes. The deity who has the qualities of bravery, manliness, determination, the ability to deal with difficult situations, of stable mind and depth of character is represented as blue colored. Lord Krishna spent his life protecting humanity and destroying evil, hence he is colored blue.”“

First of a three-part series of spreads of my take on Rapunzel set in India. The book is geared toward a younger audience so I went with younger protagonists as well!

Omg I love

Not a direct adaptation of Tangled, but what a beautiful illustration!

THE FOLLOWING PIECES are probably the only existing fanart of Flynn's original concept, the Romani Thief named Bastion, together and without Rapunzel. The artists' name seems to have been lost to the seven winds is David Gilson, a very popular artist on DeviantART.com (who apparently had ties with the actual film).

LIKE WITH MOST DISNEY films, TANGLED went through development hell in the sense that no one seemed able to come up with concrete or solid character designs and storylines they wanted to see developed. And in a strange way, the racebent art, the product given and the information behind its production tends to herald a sad tale of "what if, that could've been awesome" woes. So many interesting concepts ditched for a mainstream approach. The most changed character in the film is undoubtedly "Flynn Ryder", who went from a Romani thief, a heavy set man, a modern day brat of a boy in musical battle with Rapunzel, to a plethora of other things before reaching the Han Solo Disney Prince Parody presented in the film. Artist Jim Kim's design for the character was the Romani thief named Bastion who truly appeared like he could sweet talk or fight his way out a situation as absurd as a raging horse with a hard on to arrest him, problematic as his very design and desgination (theif, the Roma are always bloody thieves) happens to be.
