David Gilson is a French Artist. In 2007, over being excited for Disney’s Black Princess, he created a plethora of wonderful artwork in anticipation.

Many of them created during earliest production in which the film was then titled The Frog Princess and the heroine was named Maddy the chambermaid. These works since have been passed around as if they were conceptual artwork during production. In part for being well done and existing a year prior to any real art released to the press and public.

As The Princess and The Frog hops towards five years since theatrical release, it it time to identify these great works of art as they are, fan art.

The right column showcases the beautiful pieces by Disney Artists. David Gilson’s fan artwork is used often when talking about natural hair for Tiana. Lorelay Bové, Sue Nichols, Chris Appelhans, Armand Baltazar and Kevin Gollaher have drawn natural hair in their concept art and unfortunately that aspect did not make it to realization.

David was contracted by Disney Publishing and Disney Consumer Products for Tangled in 2010. Hey, who knows maybe all the attention to his Tiana art landed him the job. We wish him the best in all his artistic endeavors! [SOURCE]

Transmogrification Central: People of Color and Disney's "Animal" Allusion/Fetish

When we're not including Lilo and Stitch, the last three Disney films that starred POC were the Emperor’s New Groove in 2000, Brother Bear in 2003 and Princess and the Frog in 2009. What did they have in common?

Disney creates new Princess Line up; knocks Tiana, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan to the back

But sure let’s pretend the WoC princesses are least popular in spite of everything that indicates most of them being popular fan favorites, much more so than Aurora or Snow White?? And even if it were true, popularity of merchendise is manufactured in itself. Tired of people acting like certain princesses are associated as princesses more just by chance. It’s because they’re marketed that way! Think of how- even after Tiana came out- WoC princesses are tokenized in any princess merchendise.

#Discussion: "The Princess and the Frog: Meet the Parents" Sequel Idea --- Y/N?

waltdisneyconfessions:

“I want a well-animated Princess and the Frog sequel about Tiana meeting Naveen’s family in his home country (but no Charlotte please… no offense but I would want Tiana to have the spotlight to herself for a change)”

Gotta say, as content as I am with Princess and the Frog as a one-shot (because, oh lord, those awful DTDVD sequels), that would've been an interesting shortie to have seen put into production over something like Eugene and Rapunzel's marriage. What say you? N/Y?

#Character Spotlight: Disney Christmas Icons - by petitetiaras & bibbitybobbitywho

TO CELEBRATE: the Holiday/Christmas season, petitetiaras and bibbitybobbitywho has created Tumblr icons of the Disney Princesses dressed in the festive, tacky red, green and white clothing that has become representative of snow, sweets and gifts under the tree. Though they deem they are for tumblr, I've seen plenty of LiveJournal users reduce the sizes to the appropriate 100x100 pixels and use them here.

Disney Recruits Fashion’s Biggest Names In New Film

FOR A MOMENT I I totally thought this was fan made, but apparently it's an official animation for Harrod's "Disney Princesses" or the 'Electric Holiday' showcase announced a couple months earlier during the summer.

DISNEY has teamed up with US department store Barneys to immortalise a host of fashion's key names through a cartoon film that will be broadcast in the shop from Wednesday, November 14.

The short, entitled Electric Holiday, follows Minnie Mouse as she dreams her way to Paris Fashion Week. Along her travels, she comes across a selection of the industry's most famous faces - including Lady Gaga, Alber Elbaz, Carine Roitfeld, Sarah Jessica Parker and Mario Sorrenti. The film will be played on repeat on LED tiles that cover the two-story ground floor façade, WWD reports.
