Huzzah! Once Upon a Time has entered the realm of Arthurian legend and literature with Episode 2x03, “The Lady of the Lake,” which features probably the most well-known Knight of the Round Table, Sir Lancelot. There are many works of Arthurian literature which span across the medieval period in Europe (approximately 1100-1500 AD), but Le Morte Darthur, by Sir Thomas Malory (1485) is considered the definitive work, as he took many of the Arthurian texts that came before him and shaped them into what is considered the paradigm of knightly stories, of which Sir Lancelot is as central a figure as King Arthur himself.

Before I say a word, know that I’m not a racist. I simply think that changing the ethnicity of classic characters just to prove how not racist you are is a cheap thing for production companies to do. I mean, Lancelot was not an African. Not in one story or piece of art was he depicted as anything but an English born white man. Do you have any idea how rare Africans were in England in those days? Only just recently has the first skeletal remains of a black man been found and from the condition of them, he was most likely a slave and not treated very well. I know Lancelot isn’t real. Unlike Mulan, he really is from a fairy tale… but c’mon. I know I may sound like I’m taking this stuff too seriously, but why bother getting into a TV series if you’re not going to let yourself really get into it.

Isn’t it hilarious when you think about the fact that Lancelot didn’t exist? You know who else didn’t exist? Basically every character in this series! Do you know what else didn’t exist? Magic…magic totally didn’t exist. And people couldn’t turn into dragons. And there are no such things as wraiths. There’s a lot about this show that could be complaining about, but you’ve chosen to complain about the fact that Lancelot isn’t white.

Dear self-proclaimed non-racist, if in a fantasy series, with magic and dragons and entire universes existing through portals in hats, you find it more unrealistic/unbelievable that Lancelot is played by a person of colour, what do you think that makes you?

TIANA4OUAT is a tumblr blog that appears to have been created in response to the Tiana fans wondering aloud "When is Tiana going to appear on Once Upon a Time?" (despite the heavily doubt she'll ever appear because ABC's less than glowing track record with WOC who don't look like Lana Parilla). She, Mulan, Esmeralda and Jasmine (Shang, Naveen, Aladdin) are among some of the POC Princesses a lot of fans were hoping to see in the second season and while Mulan managed to make it onto the series with a episodic status alongside Lancelot, the others have yet to appear. The blog was presumably created five months ago and keeps sporadic tabs on the news, its most recent post pertaining to inclusion of Mulan in a review and some unknown spat I'm not privy to.

That aside, for a blog that is "campaigning" for Tiana to get an appearance on OUAT, there's not a lot of what I would expect to find on a blog of its kind. No petitioning, no theories (aside from the ones reposted from ouattheories), no head-canons or those ever popular Role Playing faceclaims or dreamcasts (but maybe that's a good thing since I shudder to see yet another "Zoe Saldana as everyone Black Woman in media" RP post). I'm not one to tell anyone how to run a blog, but I suppose a little more activity (RL notwithstanding) would probably garner more interest in the blog and attract more attention from the crowd who want to see.
