#Character Spotlight: Historical Princesses: Pochontas (UPDATED) - by shoomlah

shoomlah:

Finally updated Pocahontas!  I don’t think this is what people were expecting as the next entry in the series, but some of the criticisms of my first design have been eating away at me for years now and I needed to get off my ass and address them.

So hey!  Spunky age-appropriate Pocahontas/Matoaka, sans feathers in the hair/European imagery/other superfluous details.  This is closer to accounts and illustrations of Powhatan dress from the period, and I kinda think it’s closer to the Disney design anyway. WIN/WIN.

Thanks to everyone who’s educated my ass over the past couple of years, includingmoniquillapihtawikosisanthis-is-not-native, and numerous others.  You’ve made me a way more thoughtful artist in the process. :)

#Character Spotlight: lila-me's "Look at the Stars" & "Simba 'n' Nala"

LOOK AT THE STARS by LILA-ME

noteveryoneiswhite is a tumleblog dedicated to the humanization of animal or other characters in animated, live action or written narratives. Chief among the blogger's inspiration to create the blog was the constant humanization of Lion King characters within the box of white characters despite the setting in being Africa and full of animals indigenous to the continent. And so far, they've ranked a great many of beautiful fanworks of Lion King fanart that depicts the Lions and other animals of the tale as People of Color. DeviantART.com artist, lila-me is someone who's been featured more than three times on the blog and I definitely recommend checking out their Lion King tag for more POC!Humanized TLK pieces.

#Character Spotlight: Borra Week - "Surprise and Moonlight" by Siquia

Borra WeekSurprise and Moonlight

A Peter Pan/LOK crossover because Bolin is green and Korra is blue? Also Bolin reminds me of Peter quite a bit. The background is off a screenshot, doctored and tweaked into submission.

Supremely late, I know. I had to force myself into finishing this since I’m having a pretty bad day in exchange for a good night last night. My head still feels like I’m foxtrotting with a jackhammer *groan*

Also, I’ve gained nearly a hundred followers overnight? Did I accidentally sell my soul or something? Welcome to my Tumblr, I hope you enjoy your stay :D

#Character Spotlight: marydoodler's "Snow Queen" in Mongolia

marydoodler:

I don’t where I read it, but for the longest time I thought Disney’s next animated film “The snow queen” ( now frozen) was set in Mongolia. But the newest concept art officially and completely squishes that, so I am now lamenting the change with a concept of what could have been.

Artist note: painted this in sketch club and accidently destroyed the colors halfway through, they were much better before :(

#Character Spotlight: Mermaid Collection by FERNL @deviantArt.com

IF THERE'S ANYTHING DeciantART user FERNL loves to do, its re-imagine Disney characters as color coded mermaids --- obviously stemming from an adoration of 1989's The Little Mermaid. The following pieces below are a collection of Disney Heroes and Disney Heroines as the aforementioned.

#Character Spotlight: "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella" by tamsalama

tamsalama:

I tend to put on old 90’s movies on while I work on things, and the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella from 1997 with Brandy and Whitney Houston and Paolo Montalban is one of my favorites.

The stepsisters are hilarious, too - their overly dramatic reaction to Cinderella’s comment gave some awesome expressions there.

I’ll probably share some more sketches from this movie later this weekend!

#Character Spotlight: Disney Christmas Icons - by petitetiaras & bibbitybobbitywho

TO CELEBRATE: the Holiday/Christmas season, petitetiaras and bibbitybobbitywho has created Tumblr icons of the Disney Princesses dressed in the festive, tacky red, green and white clothing that has become representative of snow, sweets and gifts under the tree. Though they deem they are for tumblr, I've seen plenty of LiveJournal users reduce the sizes to the appropriate 100x100 pixels and use them here.

#Character Spotlight: Bastion the Thief by David Gilson (princekido)

THE FOLLOWING PIECES are probably the only existing fanart of Flynn's original concept, the Romani Thief named Bastion, together and without Rapunzel. The artists' name seems to have been lost to the seven winds is David Gilson, a very popular artist on DeviantART.com (who apparently had ties with the actual film).

#Character Spotlight: teaat2am's "Rapunzel" and "The Little Mermaid"

teaat2am is the artist responsible for the Indian/South Asian "Snow White" that was featured in the discussion thread that gave birth to this community. I'm not sure why I never searched their blog further, but to discover they made other renditions of the fairy tales Rapunzel and The Little Mermaid makes me happy.

#Character Spotlight: VirginieSiveton's "Tribute to..." Tiana and Pocahontas

VirginieSiveton is a pretty proficient artist who enjoys drawing pin up versions the Disney Princesses and general human models. Of his pinup I thought the ones of Tiana and Pocahontas were probably his strongest (the POC heroines, Mulan, Jasmine and Esmeralda were borderline whitewashed). Be sure to check out his gallery in the link.

THE LINE IT IS DRAWN #114 – DISNEY WELCOMES STAR WARS TO THE FAMILY!

In honor of Disney buying Lucasfilm, suggest team-ups and/or mash-ups of Star Wars characters and Disney characters. Enjoy! I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion. All copyright and trademarks of the following characters are held by their respective owners! BigMike20X6 and some one else whose twitter handle I’ve lost suggested:

#Character Spotlight: "HEEEEYYYY, SEXY LADIES" - Gangnam Style Princes"by Grodansnagel

(source)

AT THIS POINT everyone and their mother has made a parody-something of Korean Pop Star, PSY's GANGNAM STYLE (강남스타일) since it's debut on YouTube sent it spiraling through the American consciousness like an adequately named bug. Grodansnagel's Disney Princess Parody featuring the official princesses is no different.
